Top 10 Tips to Creating an Instagram-Worthy Styled Photo Shoot

If you’re familiar with Leah Weinberg, of Color Pop Events, then you know that bold palettes are kind of her thing – she does after all plan weddings for those who dream in color. We’re SO grateful for the incredible concepts she dreams up when it comes to photoshoots, where she really lets her design-tendencies shine, because she brings our linens to life in the most vibrant ways. We picked her brain to get to the core of how she comes up with this stuff (Tutti Fruti? Jackson Pollock? Lisa Frank?!) and got her top 10 tips for designing an awesome styled shoot. Grab a pencil because you’re going to want some notes…

Create something people haven’t seen before. Want to get people’s attention and really wow them? Then you’ve got to show them something new. So many trends have been done to death, so why not be the trendsetter?

Seek inspiration. If you’re going to create something new, then you’ve got to be inspired. Go to a museum. Go see a play. Heck, just go for a walk. There are so many inspiring things all around us that all it really takes is for us to be mindful and open to what we’re seeing.

Have no fear. I know it’s cliche to say “think outside the box,” but in my opinion, the more “out there” the concept is, the better. This is coming from someone who has done shoots inspired by Barbie, Jeff Koons and Lisa Frank (just to name a few), and I can tell you that the weirder your idea is, the more attention you’ll get.

Assemble a dream team of vendors. The secret to creating great images is to have an amazing vendor team supporting you. Make sure you’re working with people you know and trust, and whose style matches your own.

Colors are key. The fastest way to set the tone for your shoot is with your color palette. Choose colors that really speak to the feel of your shoot. They don’t have to be bold (though I would obviously love them to be) but they need to make a statement and really define the theme of the shoot.

A pop of texture is the new pop of color. Want to make people really feel what it’s like to be at your party? Bring in textured linens that will make your audience want to touch and feel everything in your images.

Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and prints. The ability to mix patterns and prints is definitely a gift, but if you can do it well, then you can create something truly unique.

Sweat the small stuff. To have a successful shoot, you’ve got to live in the details. Having as many elements as possible gives you more to photograph and will give more life to your ideas.

Know your angles. Whatever you choose to create, make sure it looks good from every angle. The photographer is going to want to capture your work in as many ways as possible–whether it’s a detail shot of one flower or a head on image of the centerpiece or an overhead photo of the flowers as part of the entire tablescape–so make sure your work is ready for those 360 views.

Have fun. Isn’t that the whole point?

Make sure to follow along with Leah as she plans her way into 2018!

Winter Wedding Ideas Inspired by Suiting

This one’s for the guys. The guys with their peak lapels and shawl collars, perfectly tied ties and just shined shoes. And the guys with their suits. Oh their suits! We so often overlook what grooms are wearing, assuming all suits and tuxedos are created equal so when we stumbled upon The Black Tux and saw their incredible suit and tuxedo assortment…we were impressed! Their suits come in such a breadth of styles and colors, looking over their selection we wondered, what would a winter wedding look like if inspired by a groom’s suit? Scroll through to see our three favorite color palettes and find out who wore it best…

The elusive midnight tuxedo, a big trend at the moment and we’re all about it as a modern upgrade on your traditional black tux. For the perfect mix we love a midnight tuxedo with a black lapel accent and it pairs perfectly with our Midnight Parker. A geometric patterned linen in just the right color combination. Navy has always been a wedding color palette favorite and we especially love it for winter weddings with a pop of Marsala (we’re big fans of Marsala). If you’re feeling super swanky, maybe don a Marsala-hued smoking jacket to pair with our Wine Velluto linen.

Maybe you’re ditching the cold weather for a tropical wedding in Miami – we can’t blame you – and a more colorful wedding palette. We’re totally feeling shades of olive green, to fit right in with the lush foliage, anchored with black details, to keep it classy. Go all in on the full black tuxedo or swap the jacket for an emerald green and you’ll feel at one with the tropics. As for tabletop, keep it light without losing the elegance. We love the idea of a patterned linen, like our Honeydew Palomino linen, on one table style mixed with a combination of our Apple Metallic Burlap and patterned Black Ink Napkin on the other style. That’s a winter wedding in the tropics!

And if you’re going to a destination spot for your winter wedding perhaps you’ve landed in New Orleans just in time for Mardi Gras! Let’s embrace the location with a palette in traditional shades of plum (and maybe even Ultra Violet). We’re so into a grey suit, it really anchors the look, and creates a great base for a tablescape. If you want to add that Nola flair to your party we like the Preston Bailey Collection Off White Shimmer or the Natural Mini Koi to give it that sparkle! Or really embrace the French Quarter with a fleur-de-lis motif, like our Plum Neiman linen. Of course dress for the occasion, perhaps a head to toe Rose colored suit, a perfect match for our Rose Velluto linen. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Inspired by Ultra Violet to Design in a Purple Palette

Pantone describes its 2018 Color of the Year pick as, “a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade,” that, “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.” Wow, that is giving us all the positive-vibes for the year. So with Ultra Violet on the mind, we thought we’d look back on some of our favorite Purple looks. Countdown on our top 7 looks and find some inspiration for using the color Purple…

This sweet and sophisticated design from Ashton Events is a perfect way to set the base with Purple. Our Eggplant Velluto was accented with hints of blush and gilded accents, our favorite pieces being those sophisticated swans swimming on by.

Give purple a stark contrast by setting it against a textured black linen. Swoon Soiree opted for our Black Leather Rosette and brought in purple hues with a the napkin detail and in the floral arrangement.

Flaire Weddings took us to Provence, France (literally!) for this gorgeous lavender-inspired shoot. Set against a perfectly landscaped garden, a table dressed in our Lilac Velluto was just the romantic place for dinner.

Set in the Big Easy, this New Orleans styled shoot from Belladeux Event Design pulled out all the stops. Our Preston Bailey Collection Off White Shimmer set the sparkling setting for this purple and silver wedding design. The purple hues came cascading down from the orchid arrangement to the charger plates.

This properFUN design from Jes Gordon sets just the right balance between edgy and sweet. Our Ivory Laurel linen was accented with shades of blush, purple and blue across the tabletop and in a mix of chair pads, adding such a fun design element!

From Kesh Designs in Chicago comes this incredible design. Orchids in shades of purple cascaded onto the tabletop to meet our Preston Bailey Collection Champagne Heather Napkin Bands wrapped around our Stone Metallic Faux Dupioni napkins. With our Champagne Metallic Forest linen, it tied together beautifully for a golden look.

And one of our favorite looks, really bringing all the nuances of Purple to the party, was this Purple Rain inspired event at Engage!16 at The Breakers in Palm Beach. Our Purple Sequin Taffeta danced the night away at this after party with the Prince vibes all around! We can’t think of a better way to celebrate with this magical color!

A Tented Wedding Celebration in Cape Cod

While we may have been dreaming of a white Christmas just a few weeks ago, we’re always in the mood for a Cape Cod celebration to warm us up (at least in spirit). Add to that a Luke Wilson Events wedding, and let’s cue this lovely celebration at Chatham Bars Inn just in time to bring in some heat.

Kicking off the festivities was an outdoor cocktail party with a traditional maritime feel. Our Honeydew Palomino and Whisper Green Tuscany linens brought in some cool green neutrals to mix in with white lounge seating and blue and white striped couches. All the colors played so well to bring in that crisp nautical feel!

When we got to the reception, we were welcomed into a gorgeous setting tented by Sperry Tents. A neutral palette was set for the day with tables dressed in our Flax Metallic Burlap linens and runners alongside Ivory Western linens, all seated with wood cross back chairs.

Just the perfect pop of color was brought in on the tabletop with delicate florals in bright coral and with fuchsia orchids cascading onto the table. We love how the napkin tied in to the design, playing off the floral palette with just the perfect gold detail cinching it together.

As guests got ready to dance the evening away, our Fire Metropolitan and Beige Chained linens were scattered around for cocktails and lounge seating lined the dance floor, decorated with our Raspberry Oxford, Orange Barboza, and Natural Western pillows.

As we took in the cool Cape Cod breeze and partied under the canopied tent, Brian Leahy Photography captured each detail and every laugh of the weekend. Cape Cod, with your sandy dunes and soft seas, we can’t wait to see you again!

The most liked image from 2017 was this one featuring our Tangerine Zoie linen at the Intrigued Experience. The bright orange hues in this paired so nicely with vibrant purple blooms, we were absolutely in love too! And of course the table arrangement was something fun to look at too. In 2018 we’re thinking pairing bold colors together is set for a comeback!

This stunning table set on the Amalfi Coast was a real stunner! A dream brought to life by Marcy Blum and her incredible team. Our Gold Damask Organza Overlay added just the right touch of gold to this one. Maybe 2018 will be the year of more is more?

How about this for an all white wedding? This Diamond Affairs soiree nailed that look. Even though everything was dressed in white, our Preston Bailey Collection Off White Shimmer overlay added that touch of sparkle to make the tables twinkle. We’re definitely all in on that classic all white wedding palette.

Remember when we said we were going all in on bold colors? Well, looks like you are too because this was in our top ten for 2017. We’ve always been fans of combining orange and hot pink but this Table 10 Event Design party really takes the cake! So let’s keep on bringing in the bright colors in 2018, in particular we’re thinking orange and yellow for the year.

This color palette is just divine. From the creative mind of Rocket Science Events comes this beautifully romantic design (from a photoshoot lovingly dubbed #IndustrialBacon no less). We’re all about how the pink and red color palette was grounded by our Black Leather Dot Linen. For 2018 we’re thinking texture – lots of it in all different forms.A Do yourself a favor and scroll through all the images here to really fall in love!

We can’t get this head table out of our minds and apparently neither could you. And really who could blame you when Floral and Bloom Designs transformed the room with this amazing hanging installation? We love how it floated right over our Sultry Beige Anita runner, elongating the table even more. Runners definitely have their perfect place in our hearts for 2018!

Anna Lucia Events absolutely blew this one out of the water (pun intended!). If we could we’d take all of our dinners at this incredible table, set right on the beautiful coast of Naples, FL. We’re completely obsessed with the monochromatic nude color palette, pairing our Blush Plaster linen with our Maison Dining Chairs. We’re guessing these pretty shades of neutral are sticking around in 2018!

Rounding out your favorites of 2017 was this sneak peek shot into our 2017 collection! We love giving you a look behind our design process so in 2018 we’d love to hear what you want to see. Make sure to stay tuned on Instagram and drop us your comments!
