If you’re looking for a more gentle transition to bright colors, how about mixing dainty yellow with shades of Greenery, Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year?

This setting, using our Grass Velluto linen, just nails that contemporary vibe! Petal Productions brought to
life a bold colored design offset with shiny optic white accents.

The contrast of dainty yellow flower against their sharp white box vases works surprisingly well, especially when paired with those unique geometric horse statues in the style of Jonathan Adler. And of course, white acrylic Mirage chairs are the perfect touch for guest seating.

Our favorite thing about this setting is how seamlessly it blends into Miami’s lush tropical paradise –
camouflaging right in for a dreamy outdoor wedding reception or a company retreat party! With so many colors and endless combinations, we think bright colors are a safe bet! Do you feel that crisp in the air? We’re finally settling into fall in full swing and we couldn’t be more excited! With the changing temps come a change in event styles and color palettes – think: hue inspiration like Marsala – and Swoon Soiree captured that perfectly in this recent styled shoot!

Designing with a bold black and purple color palette in mind, Swoon Soiree put together this elegant shoot in inspire modern receptions all season long! Combining our Black Leather Rosette and Black Leather Dot linens as the base of two tablescapes, they brought in texturized seasonal fabrics to give the design that extra “oomph!”

We love how mirrored chargers and purple napkins brightened up the tablecloths, giving them a
distinguished look. Flowers, from The Flower Guy Bron, were blooming in shades of violet and plum with accents of sage and white to ground the design.

And wow, that cake! Commonwealth Cake Company really – well – took the cake on this one, their black, white and purple three-tiered masterpiece had an angular shape decorated with a baroque motif to imitate our Preston Bailey Collection White Iris.

Between the leather, the lace and the stunning color combination, we’re all in on this one for fall and winter weddings this year!

If you haven’t spent time in Florida’s Emerald Coast, you are missing out! From its turquoise waters to its sugar fine sand, the panhandle’s Gulf Coast beaches are really a sight to be seen. It’s not wonder that so many couples across the country choose this location as the backdrop for their “I Do’s,” (just see here and here if you don’t believe us). With paradise on our minds, we sat down with the incredible team behind Florals by the Sea, a wedding & event design firm local to the area, to chat about their inspiration and what it’s like to plan weddings in bliss. Read all about it…

Nuage Designs: Tell us your story. What is Florals by the Sea?
Florals by the Sea: Florals by the Sea is a full scale wedding & event design company that specializes in floral artistry and couture rental décor along the beautiful Emerald Coast. What makes our particular
company special is the fact that we are actually comprised of three individually talented designers, making us one of the largest design companies in the panhandle. From a professional standpoint, this allows for our company to expand the number of weddings we can execute each weekend, averaging 150 – 200 events annually. Most importantly, it gives us a huge advantage to the collaboration process of each and every event. While each designer is individually assigned to their clients, we also have the luxury of bouncing ideas off of each other behind the scenes, for we all have our own personal style and taste – which always trickles into each others inspiration one way or the other.

ND: Your designs always feel so fresh and unique, where does this inspiration come from?
FBTS: Again, having three designers definitely contributes to that, but personally speaking, it always starts with the client. As always, they’ve likely done their research and have a few design components of their own in regards to color palettes and style – but the fun part is taking their vision to the next level, for there are so many elements that go into the entire design process that most don’t even consider before walking through our doors. The inspiration really comes from everywhere, depending on what’s important to the client; anything from a floral swatch of a bridesmaid dress to the iridescence of an oyster shell to the label on a favorite bottle of rosé. We see it all! And that is where you guys come in. I always tell my clients to “never underestimate the power of a fabulous linen, for this is one of the greatest ways to make an individual statement, which is truly something everybody craves.”

ND: How does your setting in the Gulf Coast play into your weddings?
FBTS: Considering we have one of the most beautiful beaches in the nation, (if not the world) – it doesn’t come at surprise that people want the Gulf Coast to be the heart of their special day. That being said, a majority of our clientele is destination, which means tons of planning and communication via long distance. Most have been visiting since they were children, while others did a quick Google search, found a picture of a pretty beach and said, “Let’s go!” Regardless, it’s that ultimate view of crystal clear emerald waters and white sugar sands that wins them over every time. While we get clients from all over – a majority of them seem to come from the surrounding southern states, in which the Emerald Coast has been a part of their family for decades, before it was a booming wedding industry.

ND: How is the collaboration process with your clients? Where does the basis for their wedding begin?
FBTS: Because a majority of our clients are destination, upon booking, we always try to schedule an in-person consultation at some point in the planning process, for our meetings are actually quite interactive and fun. (Plus, it’s always a bonus if you get to personally meet your clients’ personality, which isn’t always the case with destination.) We pull all their inspiration up on the big screen, have all swatches and samples pulled and ready to display, and really just go where the meeting takes us. I can usually tell within the first five minutes which direction I need to gear the meeting towards. Some clients LOVE discussing every little detail, while others would rather trust the professionals to make the decisions for them, for it can get overwhelming if “decision making” isn’t your forte. After the initial consultation and design proposal, communication with the client practically stays in full swing up until the day of the event, for this is what we like to call “the perfecting period” in which we ensure every “t” is crossed as every “i” is dotted. Do brides change their minds? Of course they do. Does budget play a realistic role? Of course it does. But this is all part of the collaboration process from beginning to end. Not one detail is overlooked on our end, for we believe that proper preparation is key to a successful event.

ND: Do you ever find it difficult to push clients towards what they might see as an “edgy” design?
It’s as if you took the words right out of my mouth. While all girls love the idea of an “edgy” design concept, it’s rare that you actually cross paths with a client that is brave enough to go for it, and when they do – ultimate excitement. As designers, we are constantly looking for something new, something bold, something edgy – the next best thing – but it’s very important to remember, that while this may be our 500th+ wedding, this is still the clients first, so we have to be mindful of that. But insider note, all things aside, as simple the concept may be, I always try and find a place to put a little “edge” in there
somewhere and it usually ends up being one of their most memorable details.

ND: We know you are big on making sure everything is literally perfect at each event – why is that?
FBTS: Simply stated, Sally (the owner) has always said from day one – “In this industry, you do not get a “do-over”, therefore each event must be executed at 110% each time, every time.” It’s that extra attention to detail that truly brings us to the next level.

ND: What are some of your trademark styles?
FBTS: Oh, where do we begin? Of course we love fresh flowers and custom installations, for we are constantly drafting out new ideas to create unique, never-before- seen, design elements. We actually custom build quite a bit of pieces throughout each season to accommodate our crazy ideas. However, we also take serious pride in our signature lounge collections – for we LOVE incorporating decorative furniture and accessories into the mix. Just like a custom lighting and/or floral installation, unique pieces (including specialty linens!) are what truly make an event remarkable and memorable.

ND: What is your advice to couples coming to you with a “trendy” design in mind?
FBTS: Remember the key word timeless, for it should be in the back of your mind at all times. You want to be able to look back at your special day 10, 20, even 30+ years from now and still see all the beauty and love that was put into it. Event design is just like fashion – constantly evolving, eventually repeating – so if you even think for a second that something feels “trendy” then you’re likely not going to be wild about it later on down the road. It needs to feel substantial and whole.

ND: What is your favorite thing about designing weddings?
FBTS: The best, most rewarding part of our job is always the clients first reaction upon seeing their special day come to life. It’s right there in that moment that all the hard work, late nights, and time invested become 100% totally worth it. The feeling is indescribable, but also an instant reminder of why it is we do what we do.

ND: What trends do you see for the spring wedding season?
FBTS: I’m really hoping to see more depth and contrast come back into play. Especially being where we are – a lot of people crave that light, bright, clean feel, which will always be beautiful, but I’m starting to get the itch for some wild colors, textures and patterns. Something a little more dimensional.

And what more can we say other than “I Do!” to Florida’s Emerald Coast!

It’s no surprise to us that Legendary Events has been in business for nearly twenty years, we have, after all, met Mr. Tony Conway himself. His premier special-events company is behind many of Atlanta’s most renowned events, providing their expertise in everything from planning to floral design for political figures, beloved celebrities and everyone else wise enough to book them. So, in the spirit of the New Year, inspired by those in the events industry who have set the bar so high, we sat down with Tony to pick his brain and kick off our 2017 goal setting.

Read on to hear about how he got started in events, his secrets to running a successful business and what is on the horizon for Legendary Events!

Nüage Designs: Tell us your story – how did you get into the event world?

Tony Conway: I started in the hotel industry when I was 16 at Holiday Inn. I then moved to Marriott Hotels for 12 years, Stouffer Hotels for 4 Years and Ritz Carlton for 4 years as Director of Catering and Conference Services.

ND- What made you decide to explore so many different aspects of the event process (catering, florals, design, planning)?

TC -It’s really a natural progression because they all are part of what we do to make an event happen. Plus I also decided that this would give us more control over the product and a better return on investment (ROI).

ND – You also own and operate venues in Atlanta, what was the impetus to make that leap?

TC – It’s good to have spaces that we have full control over for all aspects of an event. It gave us the freedom to create an environment for our clients that I felt was missing in the marketplace. In the end it made sense as a business owner and for all of the clients we enjoy creating special moments for.

ND – You’ve been in business for almost 20 years, what would you say is the secret to that success?

TC – Four things.

1. The team. I am surrounded by amazing members of the special event industry that do it better than I can. I have always felt like the conductor of the symphony and the talent in my orchestra is what makes the music happen.

2. Knowing when to make calculated changes and take risks.

3. Listening to our customer.

4. Making sure I have a trusted team of accountants and attorneys that keep a watchful eye over everything, so that we can concentrate on providing the best possible service for our clients.

ND – How do you find great team members to join Legendary Events? Do you find that you hire employees that stay for a long time with the company?

TC – I am fortunate that so many of the team have moved up in the company. We also benefit from positive word of mouth recommendations that often produces great talent. I tend to hire slowly and carefully in order to make sure that every new team member understands the mission of the company, has a passion for the industry and for making a profit. The Legendary Events family are a tight knit group who work extremely hard; if you don’t pull your weight as part of the team they are usually the ones moving you out!

ND – How do you maintain long-standing client relationships to ensure continued projects together?

TC – Listen…Listen…Listen. We’re honest with our clients and take them “along the journey” with us when planning their events. We let them know if something does not work. We always provide alternative solutions and we’re honest if their request does not fit into our budget guidelines in advance. It’s always important to remember that this is not what they do but they have some ideas and we need to help them bring that to life. I have a philosophy, our clients are part of our overall sales team: they put us in front of their guests who are also potential clients…and they pay for this! Our clients are THE BEST form of advertising for we have. So we are always trying to make sure the entire guest list is treated as though they were the client.

ND – Legendary Events always wows us with new ideas, where do you find inspiration to always innovate?

TC – Everywhere: The fashion industry, other colloquies and what they are doing, conferences, our clients, restaurants, social media, TV, film. You name it.

ND – Of the entire event process, which is your personal favorite?

TC – I enjoy the first meeting. Listening to the client and talking through how we can make those ideas come to life never gets old.

ND – When speaking with newer business owners in the weddings and events space, what would be your advice to them on growing their business and brand in a way that is true to self?

TC – Have a plan and continue to change that plan. Make sure you learn this business, not just work in the business. Make sure you have your finances in order and be prepared for slumps in the business. Hire slow, fire fast. Surround yourself with talent that is smarter than you.

ND – If you could plan a party for anyone, dead or alive, who would that be?

TC – Tina Turner – She’s a legend, need I say more!

ND – What else is on the horizon for LE?

TC – Possibly acquiring additional venues and continuing to look for ways to improve upon what we are already doing.

As temperatures begin to dip across the country, Miami reaches a beautiful “75 degrees and sunny,” or the kind of forecast that makes you really understand the whole “snowbird” phenomenon. A perfect snapshot of this seasonal paradise is this dreamy JCG Events wedding that took place at Vizcaya Gardens. From the bridesmaid’s pretty pink dresses to the cozy waterfront lounge, everything about this is swoon-worthy. So as you unpack your knit sweaters and wool socks, peek over the full set of images from Katie Lopez Photography and pretend for a moment that you too are “75 degrees and sunny.”

First of all, Vizcaya. This museum and garden in South Miami is a real fairytale venue and so fitting for the gorgeous design of this wedding. The neutral blush palette plays so well with the natural elements of Vizcaya, brightening the space with a nice pink hue. We love the mix of different linens, from the Parchment Oxford to the Sultry Beige Dora, giving the wedding a rustic feel with a hint of sparkle.

The flower arrangements are so perfect for the season! Southern Blossoms Florals brought in an assortment of colors ranging from delicate pink to light coral to deep magenta. These bright arrangements paired alongside tall branches draped with crystals and hanging greenery made it feel truly magical underneath the tent.

As the sun set on this gorgeous affair and twilight took over, we cast our eyes over the water only to discover the dreamiest lounge area. Set against Biscayne Bay with Vizcaya’s boat-shaped stone barge in the background, French country-inspired Maison furniture welcomed party guests for a breath of fresh air. We will definitely remember this gorgeous wedding as the fall turns to winter and we think of more things to add to our list, “Reasons to become a Snowbird.”

As we approach the end of October, populations around the world prepare to welcome in the New Year with Diwali, the “Festival of Lights.” This beautiful five-day festival symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair. In the spirit of the season, we turned to our friends at Tinsel & Twine to deconstruct a beautifully designed table that will inspire plenty of celebrations!

Tinsel & Twine used our Orange Hemp Flocking linen as the base of their design. With its deep orange hue and intricate pattern, the linen is reminiscent of traditional henna designs. Garlands of Marigolds, Carnations and velvety Celosias were strung together across the table in a gorgeous floral runner. The bright fuchsia, yellow, red and orange blooms really livened up the celebration! Marigolds are very symbolic in India representing passion and creativity and also used as love charms, especially for newlyweds!

We love how the designers added in touches of brass throughout with ornate candleholders, traditional brass trays and hammered metal bowls filled with dried fruits and orange lentils. From the lasercut Ceci New York place cards to the decorative rim on Party Rental Limited’s Gold Florentine plates, each pattern plays perfectly off the other.

And of course, no Diwali celebration would be complete without twinkling candles! Pretty mercury glass tea-light holders added a magical sparkle to the night. From the Autumnal palette to the bold florals and gilded décor, we are obsessed with this beautiful design! Every fall we find ourselves in awe of the beauty of the season. We look around to see bursts of green holding on to sunny days as trees above us being to change color and lose their leaves. The natural color palette turns into a spectrum of neutrals, from blush to hazelnut, peppered with sprigs of green and deep autumnal oranges.

In perfect seasonal style, Elleson Events designed this dream wedding inspiration that fits right in with fall’s natural color palette. The historic 1920’s mansion, The Swan House, in Atlanta, Georgia could not have been a better backdrop for this styled shoot. Simply Sarah Photography captured every lovely detail of the grounds, from the house’s ornate designs and stately columns to its cascading fountains and impeccably maintained boxwood gardens.

Walking down the stairs and into the gardens we come across the perfect place to sit down and celebrate. A dainty table for eight is set in light blush hues. We adore the simple romance of this design with its lightly patterned linen, whimsical napkin detail and French-country inspired Maison chairs. Elleson Events brought in the perfect touch of color with an centerpiece brimming with ranunculus in ombre shades of red.

Watching the bride stroll the gardens in her Alexandra Grecco dress is a real-life fairytale. From the vine-covered walls to the perfectly trimmed hedges, the greenery at The Swan House is in perfect contrast with the mansion. After seeing this, how could we not be taken by the natural beauty of fall?

Some moments are just so perfect you wish you could live in them forever. That’s how we felt when Kellie McGehee of Florals by the Sea shared this lovely beachside wedding with us.

The intimate celebration was set against the pristine coast of Destin, Florida with its white sand beaches and clear blue skies. Designed in shades of blush set against white rental pieces from RSVP Events, the wedding palette was crisp and refreshing, allowing the gorgeous backdrop to take center stage. And the laid-back simplicity of the décor fits so well with the beachy vibes, with natural-inspired textiles and delicate florals used throughout to decorate the ceremony, place settings and as an incredible floral runner for the sweetheart table.

Between the intimate lounge areas tucked against soft sea dune sand Olimb Photograpy’s capture of Florida’s cotton candy colored skies, we certainly say “I Do” to this one!

Red, White and Blue, the most traditional palette of them all. With Fourth of July coming up, our thoughts turn to all things Americana and how to celebrate our beautiful country! And while this color combination is the most tried and true, it can sometimes feel a bit dated, but not in the hands of Color Pop Events and Juli Vaughn Designs. Putting a unique twist on these classic colors, the creative team brought them to life in a totally modern way!

Set inside the newly renovated Brooklyn venue Weylin B. Seymour’s, this styled shoot could not have found a better location. Originally the Williamsburgh Savings Bank, the space is full of details from the bank, such as the original vault brass pieces and an intricate painted dome ceiling, which set a backdrop for the traditional. Blending copper seating with perfectly patterned vintage armchairs, pieces from Patina Rentals gave the tablescape a contemporary feel while the flowers from Juli Vaughn Designs, in their shades of amber with pretty peonies poking through, softened the look. Not to mention the invitation suite from Sincerely Jackie Paper, in deep shades of red with perfectly whimsical calligraphy by Everly Calligraphy.

And honestly, who wouldn’t love to take a seat and open some gifts with the bridesmaids -Tiffany blue, I think we know what’s in those boxes! But what really made us fall in love with this styled shoot, is the lovely bride and dapper groom! Somehow, this gorgeous Amsale gown hit the perfect blend of traditional silhouette with modern minimalism and just the right amount of tulle for fun! Thoughts of sleep- away camp, weekend trips to the great outdoors and afternoons spent hiking in the woods remind us of how great it feels to spend time with Mother Nature.This MStarr Event Design wedding takes all of those perfect memories and rolls them into one gorgeous lakeside celebration of love! Right on Sebago Lake in the lovely state of Maine, the couple exchanged their vows under birchwood decorated with bright summer blooms by Petal Floral Design.

After the “I Do’s”, the Migis Lodge was transformed into a romantic library-inspired space, with bookmark escort cards and library card menus setting the mood. From the Julie Song Ink watercolor invitations to the dahlia-topped naked cake, not one detail was missed at this rustic-chic party! And the final touch that really put us over the moon? Ending this night of laughter and love around a bonfire enjoying some delicious gooey s’mores!
