Love Felt in the Five Senses

There are certain times of the year, we can’t help but fall head over heels in love with love. Valentine’s Day is a great reminder to include a little more romance in our events and in our personal lives. It can be challenging to to redefine romance when we’ve been taught it’s all about red roses and pink hearts. This year, Rebecca Rose Creative found a way to do it! She blew our minds with one of her unique styled shoots, filled with love and affection, and no pink hearts in sight.

What really got us about this shoot is how it touches each of our five senses. Absolutely breathtaking soft hues are accentuated by soft candlelight and a stunning custom watercolor pattern by Simply Jessica Marie – used on both the cake and as the liner to invitation envelopes. A sight for sore eyes!

Our Silver Velvet Linen adds so much to the element of touch – so smooth and warming, velvet is a texture that is impossible not to feel. The fresh floral aroma blossoming from the arrangements draws you in before you even sit down. And of course, the simply beautiful and delectable cake could not have been more ready to be cut and enjoyed.

We’ll go ahead and leave the last sense, hearing, to your imagination – a romantic partner’s voice leading you into this dream dinner design, perhaps?

Notes from Rebecca Rose Creative on the shoot:

This editorial shoot was styled and shot at The Lively Workshop for Photographers in October, 2015. The workshop was co-hosted by Rebecca Rose Creative and Perry Vaile Photography and held on location at the beautiful historic Graylyn Estate in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

As part of the educational experience for our photographer attendees, we prepared several editorial shoots so that they could gain insight into the creative process of preparation, styling and photography instruction and have an opportunity to shoot the design content and model themselves. This particular shoot was planned in conjunction with Michelle Butler, the editor of Trendy Bride Magazine. As a speaker at the workshop, Michelle gave our attendees invaluable insight into the editorial process and then we were able to jointly share our inspiration for this shoot with the attendees as well so that they could be privy to the entire creative process from start to finish.

Our biggest challenges were seasonal considerations and the weather! This workshop took place in the fall, when the leaves were turning color. One of Michelle’s requests was for this shoot to include content that could transcend the season and be inspiring to couples planning and designing spring or summer weddings as well. We worked carefully to include soft colors in the palette (which is why we included blush!) and strategically select locations with Perry where we could ensure that fall foliage wouldn’t be within the view of her lens.

Michelle also requested the inclusion of a floral pattern, so we worked with Simply Jessica Marie! Jessica developed a beautiful watercolor pattern that we used on the cake and the liners of invitation envelopes. The week of the workshop, we learned of a terribly rainy weather forecast. Not ideal conditions for an editorial photo shoot! But we decided to embrace the challenge and demonstrate the beauty of a rainy wedding day by using the wet windows and surfaces to our aesthetic advantage. This was a great learning experience for all of the photographers who often have to tackle the elements on wedding days with very little warning. Nobody can control the weather!

Perry’s final film images came back just as we’d hoped and show a beautifully moody, rich and lively aesthetic that is perfect for any wedding day…rain or shine.
